Top Things to Consider When Purchasing and Using a Microwave Rice Cooker

16 September 2008

The days of cooking rice on the stove are long over. More and more people these days are opting to purchase rice cookers to help speed up cooking time and make that difficult job a little more simple. Using a rice cooker helps you to cook rice to perfection without any boiling, scalding or burning.

One of the most popular forms of cookers is the microwave rice cooker. These cookers are designed to steam the rice in the microwave in a short period of time, usually around 10-15 minutes. They are a handy way to speed up cook time of rice, since traditional methods can take 45 minutes or more, and they are invaluable to those that have a hard time cooking rice correctly the traditional way.

When purchasing a microwave rice cooker, you will need to decide what size cooker you need to buy. If you are single, or have a very small family, you may want to just purchase a small microwave rice cooker that will cook a small portion of rice so that none will go to waste. If you have a large family, or often prepare large amounts of rice for meals, there are many rice cookers available that will allow you to cook larger quantities of rice at one time.

It is important to keep in mind when you are using your microwave rice cooker, that each cooker will work differently, and the type of microwave you have can also effect the performance of your cooker. Most microwave rice cookers do not work well for cooking sticky rices, such as Japanese rice, and work better for cooking a standard long-grain rice. If you have a very low wattage microwave, it may take longer for your rice to cook than stated on the package, because you are cooking at a lower power.

A microwave rice cooker is a great kitchen tool to have around the house. Just make sure before you purchase one, you read the package carefully so you can ensure the cooker is the best choice for you. You should also make certain to thoroughly read the instructions included with the cooker so that you will be successful when you use it.

Things to Consider When Purchasing Microwave Safe Cookware

14 September 2008

In this day and age, a microwave oven is a standard appliance in most kitchens. While some people simply use their microwave to re-heat food occasionally or cook a T.V. dinner, others use their microwave to cook entire meals for their family. If you are planning on doing a large amount of microwave cooking, you will need to make sure you have microwave safe cookware to cook your meals in.

When shopping for microwave safe cookware, there are a few things that you should consider. Will you be using your cookware often? If so, then you will want to put out the extra money to purchase high quality microwave safe cookware that will last a long time. While the initial investment may seem a bit much at first, purchasing high quality cookware will prevent you from having to continually keep purchasing it.

The size and shape of your microwave safe cookware should also be taken into consideration. If your oven has a turntable inside, purchase cookware that will be able to turn freely, without bumping the sides of the oven.

For best results when cooking, purchase microwave safe cookware that is round or oval rather than square or rectangle. Round or oval cookware tends to allow the food to cook more evenly and prevent hot spots from occurring. Furthermore, microwave cookware will work more effectively if the containers are shallow rather than deep. So if you can find round or oval shallow containers that are of high quality, you would be best off purchasing these containers.

Before purchasing any cookware to use in the microwave, be sure to thoroughly read the label and examine the container. Does the label specifically state that the container is safe for microwave use? Are there any metal parts to the container? If there are metal parts to the container, you should not purchase it. Additionally, if the label does not specifically state the product is microwave safe, you should not purchase it to use in the microwave.

It is common knowledge that microwave cookware is made of plastic, and the accidental use of metals creates the risk of the microwave oven breaking down in the long run. However, there are some metals which could actually be used for microwave cooking.

Recently I started cooking pasta in the microwave.

When I first heard about this method of preparing pasta I was a little leery about the whole idea. I am not one to jump at every kitchen gadget that is out there but I recently came across a microwave pasta cooker and decided to try this new way of cooking pasta.

Well I was quite surprised at the end results after using this microwave pasta cooker. Not only could I not tell the difference in the way the pasta tasted but it actually took less time to cook. When using this method for cooking pasta the whole cooking process took only 15 minutes from beginning to end.

There is no need to bring a big pot of water to boil and then adding your pasta. The traditional way of making pasta on the stove could take anywhere from 30 to 40 minutes, start to finish.

After having very good results with this microwave cooking method I basically see this as the preferred way of making all my pasta dishes.

2 September 2008

Cooking meals in the microwave has become a very popular method when preparing food. More and more people are starting to realize the convenience these invaluable kitchen appliances are when preparing food in a hurry. That’s why so many people are choosing to microwave bacon, to save time in the kitchen and cut down on the mess as well.

There are a few options available to you if you decide you want to microwave bacon for your meal. While both methods work well for cooking, many people prefer to use the microwave bacon tray not only for it’s results, but for the fact that it is designed specifically for the job.

Microwave bacon trays come in a selection of styles and sizes. The main reason that many people prefer to use these trays over a standard plate, is that a bacon tray is designed to drain bacon grease away from the bacon, making it not only healthier but more crisp as well. Most trays are designed with raised ridges that help keep the bacon away from the draining grease. The greased drains to a reservoir which holds the liquid and makes for easy disposal.

You do not however, have to have this item in order to microwave bacon successfully. If you choose to purchase a microwave bacon tray, you can often find them at stores that sell kitchen supplies for a very low price. Tips for Cooking Microwave Bacon

31 August 2008

Everybody loves bacon. Crisp, tasty and the perfect accoutrement to any breakfast meal, bacon is one of the number one consumed meats any time of the day. One thing many people hate though, is cooking bacon. Frying bacon is greasy, messy and takes forever. Fortunately, it is possible to microwave bacon to perfection in a matter of minutes with very little mess and fuss.

Microwaves have become a common appliance in many kitchens, and many people are using them to cook foods you would not normally imagine being cooked in a microwave oven. Most people would not consider that you would be able to microwave bacon, but indeed you can and it makes a bacon that is almost more delicious than that cooked in a frying pan!

There are certain steps that you must take in order to microwave bacon successfully. These few simple steps will help to ensure that your bacon comes out crisp and cooked properly and also helps to prevent your microwave from becoming a greasy mess.

To cook your microwave bacon, you will at least need a microwave safe plate and microwave safe paper towels. Place 1-2 paper towels on the plate and then lay your bacon on the towel. You do not want to cook too much bacon at once, or it will not cook properly. For best results, you should only cook 6-8 slices of bacon on the plate at the time or less if the plate is small. Your bacon should be spaced and not touching on the plate for best results.

You should then layer 1-2 more paper towels over top of the bacon and then place the plate in the microwave. This step is critical because it makes all the difference in how well your bacon cooks and how messy the endeavor will be. Microwave bacon for about 5 minutes, stopping about halfway through to check the bacon. If your microwave does not have a turntable, you should rotate the plate at this point so the bacon cooks evenly. Once your bacon is done, let it stand for about 3 minutes and then remove it from the plate and serve.

You can also purchase a microwave bacon tray, which is specially designed to cook bacon in the microwave. These trays are rather inexpensive and making cooking microwave bacon a breeze!

Basic Tips for Use and Care of Microwave Cookware

29 August 2008

In today’s hustle and bustle world, more and more people are turning to microwave cooking to save time preparing meals for their family. With a little bit of practice and the right cooking tools, it is quite easy to prepare delicious meals that the entire family will enjoy.

In order to be successful in preparing your microwaved meals, you have to make sure you have the right microwave cookware. Fortunately, since microwave cooking has become so popular, there are many microwave cookware options available for you to use when preparing your meals.

Microwave cookware comes in a large selection of materials, from basic plastic dishes to more fanciful glass and ceramic dishes that are microwave safe. The style you choose depends completely upon your own personal preferences, however many people find that glass and ceramic cookware are more efficient when preparing your food.

When you are shopping for microwave cookware for your kitchen, it is extremely important that you choose dishes that are specifically marked as being microwave-safe. These dishes are designed to be able to withstand the intense heat from the microwave, without melting and causing contamination of your food.

For best results, you should purchase microwave cookware that is round or oval in shape. These containers help to disperse the heat more evenly through your food, and help prevent burning, drying and sticking. Square containers tend to cause heat to concentrate in the corners of the containers which will cause your food to not cook properly. If you must use square cookware, it is important that you stir your food often and rotate the container frequently to achieve the best possible results when cooking.

It is important to note that there are some foods that do not cook well in certain types of microwave cookware, such as those made from plastic. Thick liquid foods such as gravies, sauces and cheeses can often stick to the sides of plastic cookware and cause the container to burn. In order to prevent this from occurring, you can spray the inside of your microwave cookware with a non-stick spray to help prevent food from sticking.

By following these few simple steps for using and caring for your microwave cookware, you will have a much greater chance of success in microwave cooking your food. Not only that, but your cookware will last much longer.
